Helpful hints for moms returning to the workforce

Dear Evil HR Lady,
I’m applying for full-time regular teaching jobs, however I have HUGE gaps in my work history, directly related to having had six kids. How do I address this in my cover letters? My inclination is to say I was on the mommy-track, in a nutshell, but I’m thinking that doesn’t sound right.

  1. Funny enough, I address this issue (sort of) on my blog today. Here’s what I said: “The difficulty of the decision to give up one’s career is exacerbated by the uncertainty of whether you’ll be able to jump back in when ready. Companies should be commended for realizing that a parent’s choice to leave the workforce does not undermine that parent’s capability as an employee upon their return.”
