For Mother’s day, I ran a post, 10 Things Every Working Mom Needs. I’d like to do the same for Dads for Father’s day.
Tell me what the working dad in your life (you or your spouse) cannot live without. Please note, this is not good ideas for Father’s day presents (although some may be). These are things to make day to day easier.
Uninterrupted sleep! Flexibility around working hours.
Are these for “at work” or just in general?
If not for at work, then the top couple are:
Beer, good beer.
Bacon, good bacon.
A spot to go fishing.
After reading the 10 Things Every Working Mom Needs… I think Dad needs a lot of the same things. My husband is big help when it comes to cooking and running around in mornings with the kiddo. So minus beer instead of wine, he probably needs the same stuff. Maybe even a manly spa day.
A comprehensive family calendar — outlook, google, whatever.
Flexible work schedule. We like to go to the kids’ events too.
Days off from youth sports. I love going, but I can use a break too.
Good coffee.
Naps.
Date nights.
A really good ice pack or heat pack. The knees and lower back need therapy after so many bike rides, soccer goals, and standing at baseball games.
We have one similar to this for our Dad in the house and he LOVES it. 15 mins and he is back up and running!

A coffee pot with a timer either included or external – saves the day when getting the thermos ready in the morning!!
1. an extra car seat base–makes transferring the car seat to a different car so much easier
2. a baby carrier of his own so he isn’t always having to adjust the straps of Mom’s carrier
3. a manly looking diaper bag
4. freedom to do messy fun stuff with the kids without a lecture about how dirty they are, or germs, or whatever
5. wipe board in the kitchen for notes and communication
6. time alone with the kids that he plans
7. a few frozen easy to fix dinner kits for when he is home alone with the kids
8. getting to sleep in occasionally while mom takes the kids out of the house for breakfast at Ihop or somewhere
9. his own phone calls from adult children
10. love and respect from Mom
Praise. Loads of it. He wants to hear he’s doing a good job, but he also gives it as well.
Seconding the Google calendar mentioned above!
We even put some work things on ours so that we know when the other is stuck on a 3 hour conference call or in training all day. Makes coordinating our usually flexible schedules a lot easier when something pops up during the work day without a lot of going back and forth.
I can not live without BACON! Bacon wrapped lobster with a side of more bacon!!!!
