I want to be promoted, and I think I need a mentor. However, there isn’t anyone in my company who can help me, and I can’t really find someone outside the company either. Do I have to have a mentor to succeed?

I have to agree with Suzanne here. I didn’t have one mentor, I had many. Lisa Ruby who trusted me and gave me confidence. Deb Powell who taught me how to hold my tongue. Melissa who taught me how to word things. Steve Cooper who taught me not to put things in writing (even in a “private” email) that I wouldn’t want published. Sandy Wilson who helped me transition careers.
There are many others.
